Happy Mother's Day, I am still cleaning, Day 5

Happy Mother's Day!

Friday:

Today is the day to do all the odds and ends around the house.  Like clean toilets, remove cobwebs, dust ceiling lights, or wipe scuff marks and fingerprints from doors, walls, and moldings.

Here is a breakdown of my schedule that I started this week in my attempt to stay on top with one cleaning chore a day:

Monday:  Dust surfaces in all rooms and clean glass surfaces

Tuesday:  Vacuum all floors and rugs (carpets)

Wednesday: Mop all floors that need mopping with all in one cleaner like swifters

Thursday: Day off from cleaning but not other things like laundry ect...you know the drill!

Friday: Odds and ends like toilets, cobwebs, scuff marks on doors, walls and moldings

Cleaning this way has been an eye opener for me.  I see that I can do it and keep up better this way but not really get to it all.   I am definitely hiring someone to come twice a month (I have a 4 bdrm house ya know).  It is way to much to do.  I felt discouraged because I realized that I will be doing everything all over again almost every day next week {you would think from listening to me that I have never cleaned before}.  I really have better things to do (trying not to rant here)!  I also find it very boring and I keep thinking about other things that I want to take care of.  Even though I will have help, I know I will still have work to do in the cleaning department.  I will just be relieved to have someone wonderful to do the deep cleaning that I seem incapable of sticking with.  I really tried and will keep working at it.
My distractions right now that render me insufficient at getting the cleaning job done:
Blogging!
Wanting to be outdoors!
Planting pretty-pretty flowers in my metal urns!
Landscaping my front yard!
Exterior painting of our house!
Furniture shopping!
Needing to travel!
Finding a gym to work out!
Organizing!
Being creative!
And basically everything else right now!

Maybe it is just spring fever!

It is all in balance sweet girl. Maybe you had better fit some free time in there to do some fun things. Maybe clean every other day. Trust me there is more to life than a perfectly clean house. I remember thinking it had to be perfect at all times and I had 3 boys, what the heck was I thinking.I can now afford to have a housekeeper twice a month and boy if I knew then what I knew now. It is soooo freeing. If you work full time I highly recommend it and if you are a SAHM try once a month to do all the hard stuff. It is soooo worth every penny. It cost me $80 for 4 hrs and they clean everything, best money I have ever spent!!Good luck,Kathysue

I feel the exact same way. Some days I feel like I'm being forced to make a choice: clean, or live life. Not surprisingly, the latter wins out!

I know just how you feel! I have a small (lets call it cozy) home and I would love to have someone once a month just to do a deep clean. Im hoping that will be in my near future, glad you decided to go for it!
Have a wonderful Mothers Day! And no cleaning for any of us!!

Jamily,

So glad you stopped by. Now I found your blog and I absolutely love it. I felt as if I was reading about my own life. I'm a stay at home mom too who struggles with the everyday cleaning. You and I both were cleaning bathrooms and wiping fingerprints yesterday.
You clean and clean everyday, but never get to experience the joy of having all of your house, the whole house clean, the way you do when cleaners come. A luxury I had when my kids were little.

And I so agree on the distractions, and I smile a little, blogging (don't tell my husband, but it can distract me for hours), gardening, shopping, etc..
I guess I'm good at ranting as well. Got to stop.

I'm adding myself to your page.

I'm the same way, I kind of do the "It won't get cleaned unless it starts to look dirty" approach.
